< shopping : EDIT > how to take home the real ‘made in france’
No matter how highbrow you are, the acquisition of objects still guarantees that dopamine rush that keeps the whole world running. Souvenirs for all!
PARIS D E F I N E D MAGAZINE »»» STYLE »» SHOPPING » how to shop ‘made in france’
1980s philosopher Madonna once said that, « music makes the people come together, music moves the bourgeoisie and the rebels ». Perhaps buying things is truly what unites the humanity — the behavior known as ‘shopping’ has been observed in almost every culture on our capitalist planet. As for the question of what you can bring back for those at home, we have a few addresses for you. Whether or not you are shopping in service of sharing the magic of your time spent acting blasé on those charming woven chairs at corner cafes with those left behind [nothing wrong with giving the gift of Paris as a flex] we have for you, a shortlist of spots for shopping that is très Made in France.

< bring france home >
This is the haven for all things, not only made in France, but souvenir-related. These are souvenirs that have a self-aware sense of humor. As tourists we can’t help but buy cheesy toys, t‑shirts and the timeless beret for our loved ones back home. We can at least do it right, right? Enter Bring France Home where everything is made in France (yes, we’re judging everyone buying souvenir gifts which are made anywhere BUT France...it just hits different).
Tote bags, chinaware, shirts with cheesy slogans and even teeth boxes (we checked, it’s not macabre, its just for little kids when they lose their teeth and are waiting for the Tooth Fairy to come by — you could even tell your kids that she came all the way from Paris to retrieve them...).
ADDRESS: 3 rue de Birague (4th arr.)
MÉTRO: Saint Paul (line 1), Bastille (line 1, 5, 8)
NEIGHBORHOOD: Le Marais
PRICE: €-€€
MOOD: touristy but in a good way
< empreintes >
You want the bohemian/bourgeoise experience, yes you do. Well, here you have it. The prices are reasonable but the result is still elegant and French. Everything is sorted by artists so you know exactly which Delphine/Francois made your day. Clearly, this is a perfect spot to support the local artisans and shopping small. If you bought anything from Champs-Élysées, you should probably consider giving back to the community and stop by this friendly spot around the corner from the Place des Vosges...just saying.
Ceramics, quilted bags and handmade jewelry are just some of the items you can find. Of course, the layout is quite minimalistic, keeping the atmosphere creative but graceful (just like the French, of course).
ADDRESS: 5 rue de Picardie (3rd arr.)
MÉTRO: Filles du Calvaire (line 8), République (line 3, 5, 8, 9, 11)
NEIGHBORHOOD: Haut Marais
PRICE: €€
MOOD: chic souvenirs, market-style objects, handcrafted
< la boulangerie boutique >
Don’t get confused with all the other boulangeries virtually everywhere around Paris. This one sells « Made in France » objects, not pastries (FYI). You can also buy chic, genuinely handmade clothes (we say genuine because we’re not talking about the printed tees or shorts that say PARIS across the ass cheeks). They are designed with thought and elegance by people who have the skills.
You can also find unique crafted jewelry. Seriously, the French really only know how to show-off. Paris has beaucoup style and this shop proves it.
ADDRESS: 30 Rue des Trois Frères (18th arr.)
MÉTRO: Pigalle (line 2, 12), Lamarck — Caulaincourt (line 12)
NEIGHBORHOOD: Montmartre
PRICE: €€-€€€
MOOD: handcrafted, clothing, authentic artists, designers
